Apparently Roland's brother was a world-famous Bassoonist, Sherman Walt.
Growing up in (at the time wealthy) Virginia, Minnesota Sherman took advantage of free music lessons, becoming a star in the Classical world. He performed in the Boston Orchestra for many decades.
He was killed in 1989 by a drunk driver. My Grampa Sam saw him play his last concert.
Sherman's daughter married the bandleader of the Boston Orchestra.
Sherman Walt plays four bassoon concerti of Vivaldi
Pressed in 1959 by RCA, Sherman is featured as the lead artist.

This is my Grampa's big brother, Sheldon.
Uncle Sheldon is an accomplished doctor in both practice & research, according to Grampa, he was the "Allergist to the Stars" which could mean only one thing. He was a top-notch doctor in Los Angeles, home of Hollywood and it's stars. Sheldon is also good at finding quarters behind children's ears.
[Dr. Siegel’s research included early work on the value of inhaled steroids in asthmatic children, permitting good control of their asthma without the complications of oral steroids. He has authored or co-authored over 100 articles, chapters, and monographs. Dr. Siegel has remained active in teaching and clinical research until his retirement in 2008.]

Here is "Dr. Michael Dean" or Sanford Berman from his Hypnotism Record released some yesterdays ago.
My Grampa's dad, "Papa Joe" helped bring Sanford Berman's (Dr Michael Dean's) father from the old-country. Since, Sanford Berman has generously donated much money the Synagogue in Virginia, Minnesota, where much of my family first lived in America.
I've only been able to find "All of Me" from Dr Michael Dean ~ The Singing Hypnotist. But, wow!! What a voice! "He sounds just like Al Jolson", says Grampa Sam. A quick search verifies that, yes, he does share the smooth croon. Who wouldn't be hypnotised by such a silky cool voice?
Here is his name on a Marquee.
"Two Sensational Casbar Shows"
Notice the other act, "Topless Go Go Galore"
Now that's show business! Dr. Michael Dean has performed nearly nightly for decades at various clubs in the Southwest United States, Tucson, San Diego and Vegas.
Brian Phillips writes: I remember Dr. Sanford Berman (Michael Dean) from my days in San Diego. He did his act for many years at Spanky's Saloon on Midway and Rosecrans, which is gone now. It was a big hangout for military personnel, I believe that the Marines or the Navy trained nearby. The free weekly newspaper in San Diego, The Reader did an article on his Hypnotism act called "Your Eyes are Growing Very Heavy (I Am Growing Very Rich)". He must have liked the article; it was framed at the entrance to the club. A commercial that ran at the time (1980s) showed him onstage with three male subjects and I can still see him barking out a hypnotic suggestion, "You guys have just lost your pants, one, two, three!", after which they "covered" themselves amid the howls and hoots of the audience. - from WMFU
Sanford Berman is also a scholar and has published 5 pamphlets that look really great. He specialized in the field of "General Semantics" also known as, "Human Engineering" and "Humanology". I'm very interested in his work and would love to read these tiny books. Sanford Berman has influenced a generation of hypnotists as well as inspired an attempted "hit" on him, which was fortunately thwarted. More on that later.
General Semantics attempts to discover the workings of our minds and the way we make sense of the world.
"Dr. Michael Dean was my mentor in the 1970’s. He taught me hypnosis and I became certified by him in 1972. He had the world’s best nightclub act in San Diego, and taught at San Diego State University. His rival, Dante, put a contract out on Dr. Dean, but got caught and went to prison. When Dr. Dean retired, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he still lives" ~ Author of last.fm biography on Dr. Michael Dean.
(This needs some follow-up, who wrote this? - Ed.)
In the 1970's, "Dante", another hypnotist attempted a "hit" (assassination) on Sanford Berman. Here's some more on Dante; At 11, Dante said, he walked away from the orphanage with his brother and hit the streets. His first “business venture” involved buying gold-plated watches for $2.99, packaging them in cases with a $150 price tag attached, and selling them to businessmen who assumed they were buying stolen merchandise for $25.
...
Dante continued to perform as a hypnotist, and in the early 1970s was working in a Tucson nightclub. In 1974 he was found guilty of attempting to contract for the murder of Michael Dean of San Diego, the widely known hypnotist and entertainer.
After Jail, Dante became involved with a Fake Diploma Scheme, making over 10 million dollars selling fake diplomas. He is now making paper flowers with his wife.

Leighton Siegel developed a computer system for doctors which he sold for millions of dollars. The first time I ever saw a digital printer and camera was at his house, turn of the century. Remember Y2k? How far we have grown.
